Following his victory at the Italian Open on Friday, Novak Djokovic required medical assistance after being struck on the head by a water bottle. The incident occurred when a child leaned over the railing to offer Djokovic a notebook for an autograph, causing an aluminum-type water bottle to fall out of the child's backpack and hit the top-ranked player on the top of his head.
Upon being hit, Djokovic immediately placed both hands on his head and then curled up on the ground, with a security guard providing protection. Subsequently, he was escorted off the court and into the locker room for further evaluation.
Organizers confirmed that Djokovic sustained a bump on his head and was undergoing medical assessment by doctors. As a result, he did not conduct his usual post-match press conference.
The incident transpired shortly after Djokovic's convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory over French qualifier Corentin Moutet in his opening match. This match marked Djokovic's return to competition after a nearly month-long hiatus.
Djokovic is currently gearing up to defend his title at the upcoming French Open, scheduled to commence on May 26.
