It seems like Jerry Jones says or does something puzzling every few months. True to form, his most recent comments regarding the 2024 NFL Draft have fans metaphorically dunking on him. Jones shared with the media Tuesday that the Dallas Cowboys are picking 24th in the first round because Dallas is the NFL’s 24th-best team.
It’s unclear if Jerry was trolling or totally serious, but just to be clear, that is not how it works. Per the NFL, the draft order is determined by the reverse order of finish from the previous season and may be impacted by trades. Teams that don’t qualify for the playoffs are in picks one through 20. Any team that did qualify for the playoffs is assigned to picks 21 through 32 based on the results of the previous season’s postseason play. That includes Jerry’s team.
