CRYSTAL DAWN and champion apprentice Benoit de la Sayette are the combination to follow in the At The Races Expert Tips Handicap (Div I) (5.30) at Wolverhampton today.
A three-time winner at Dundalk when trained in Ireland by Gavin Cromwell, the daughter of Rip Van Winkle took time to find her feet following a switch to Nottinghamshire trainer David Brown.
But Crystal Dawn was back to winning ways over this seven furlong trip – three of her four victories have now come at the distance – at Chelmsford two outings ago with a head defeat of Manettino.
Sent off the 7-2 favourite to follow up over this afternoon’s course and distance last time out, Crystal Dawn spoiled her chance by rearing as the stalls opened.
Under the circumstances, my selection did well to finish third, beaten a length and a quarter, behind Chifa and, provided all goes well at the start this time, she’s capable of getting back to winning ways.
After a near-miss over six furlongs at Dunstall Park 16 days ago, SMEATON’S LIGHT is worth another try over seven furlongs in the At The Races App Market Movers Handicap (6.30).
