Newcastle United headlines amid financial boost, Eddie Howe's transfer pot and Lucas Moura talk

Here are your Newcastle United headlines on Wednesday, May 24.

Newcastle to receive game-changing financial boost amid new sponsorship and Champions League bonuses

Newcastle United are close to unveiling a new shirt sponsor after conducting negotiations with a number of interested parties in recent months. Chronicle Live understands Sela, a Saudi events company, are the front-runners to strike a deal - said to be worth around £30m-per-season.

The company was founded in 1995 as Sela Sport, and has extensive links to the Saudi men's national team. Newcastle's recently-appointed director Abdulmajid Alhagbani, who is also a senior director at Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is currently the vice-chairman of Sela.

The Magpies cut short their current deal with Chinese gambling firm Fun88 last summer as the Premier League moves away from betting sponsorship ahead of the 2026/27 season. There has been significant interest in the battle to replace the Asian gambling firm on the front of the famous black and white kit, with a host of Middle-Eastern businesses vying for the position, as well as firms in the United States.

Eddie Howe to get competitive Champions League transfer pot as Yasir Al-Rumayyan left delighted

Eddie Howe is set to be backed with a transfer kitty capable of grappling with the Champions League group stages with Newcastle United set to avoid mistakes of the past.

Club supremo Yasir Al-Rumayyan was present at St James' Park and was impressed by the operation by Howe and his staff this season. The club will have certain restrictions due to Financial Fair Play, but Howe is eyeing five or six summer additions.

Newcastle are back in Europe for the first time since the 2012/13 season but still have existing staff on the books that experienced the rigours of extra competition. And while this will be Howe's first crack at Continental competition preparations for Europe have already been going on in the background.

A competitive transfer kitty will be the owners' reward for Howe after reaching the Champions League a year ahead of schedule. Now the aim is to remain a side that can make an impact at the business end of the Premier League - although Howe has said himself he wants silverware as soon as possible.

Newcastle United offered Lucas Moura after contact from Brazil star's camp

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Brazilian international Lucas Moura.

Moura will leave Tottenham Hotspur after their final game of the season at Leeds on Sunday after making 18 appearances for the London club this term. Chronicle Live understands there has been contact between the 30-year-old's representatives and the Magpies but no offer has been made yet by United.

Moura is thought to be open to the idea of linking up with Brazilian stars Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes and is close with skipper Kieran Trippier from their Spurs days. Both Moura and Trippier were in the Spurs team that made it to the Champions League final when the South American bagged a hat-trick in Holland.

Nick Pope to miss Chelsea game and England duty after undergoing hand operation

Nick Pope will miss Newcastle United's final Premier League game of the season against Chelsea after undergoing a hand operation. The procedure has been brought forward after the Magpies secured a Champions League spot following Monday's 0-0 draw with Leicester City.

Chronicle Live understands Pope has been playing through the pain in recent months after a hectic season that also saw him travel to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup. The former Burnley stopper won't be involved in England's Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia next month.

Gareth Southgate has instead called on Everton's Jordan Pickford, Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale and Crystal Palace's Sam Johnstone, while Martin Dubravka is expected to get the nod for Newcastle at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.

England squad in full as Newcastle's Trippier and Wilson called up but Pope and Willock miss out

Newcastle United duo Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson have been called up for England duty for next month's Euro 2024 qualifying clashes with Malta and North Macedonia. The pair both featured for Gareth Southgate's side at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and will be hoping to play a part in next year's tournament.

Trippier enjoyed a stellar campaign as part of Eddie Howe's backline, with Newcastle boasting the meanest defence in the Premier League this term. Wilson's club form suffered after his World Cup jaunt but the forward has been back to his best of late, notching eight goals in April alone.

Unfortunately the two St James' Park favourites won't be joined by any club team-mates on international duty in June with Nick Pope missing out after undergoing hand surgery. The United goalkeeper has brought the surgery forward after Champions League football was secured earlier this week.

Anthony Gordon earns England nod despite slow start to life at Newcastle United

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has been selected for England's 24-man training camp ahead of the Under-21 European Championships next month. The £40m winger has struggled to hold down a first-team place since joining Eddie Howe's side in January but will be hoping for some much-needed minutes when the Young Lions travel to Georgia and Romania in the coming weeks.

Lee Carsley's England will face Israel, Czechia and holders Germany in their group as they bid to win the tournament for the first time since 1984. Gordon will be joined in the training camp by the likes of Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White, Arsenal's Emile Smith-Rowe and Chelsea's Noni Madueke.

Carsley will name his final tournament squad on June 14 with Gordon expected to play a part should he avoid injury. His call up comes as Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson were selected for Gareth Southgate's latest senior squad.
