'I'm called Bambi like Molly-Mae's baby - I was bullied but it's special'

Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury announced the arrival of their first baby earlier this week, and shortly after revealed their daughter's name – which the influencer said people are going to "love or hate".

In a post on Instagram, the Love Island star revealed a black and white picture of the tot, with the caption "Bambi".

As soon as the announcement was made, Bambi Bains, 28, a musician who lives in London, was flooded with messages from friends. Speaking to The Mirror, Bambi admits that it's an "unusual name" and says she's still never met anyone else who shares it with her.

Growing up, it wasn't always easy being called Bambi, as she used to be bullied by children who would simply "pick on anything that's unusual" but now she just embraces it.

She explained: "When I was a kid I used to get bullied. It wasn't very fun at the time. Obviously children pick on anything that's unusual."

Kids would automatically assume she was named after the 1942 Disney film about the young deer who lives in the forest with his friend Thumper, but for Bambi there's a more sentimental meaning.

Bambi said: "My name came about because of my auntie, my father's sister. It was her nickname in the early 90s. Unfortunately, she passed away eight months before I was born so my dad named me after her nickname. So that's how the name Bambi Bains came about."

"People couldn't pronounce her real name properly, and Bambi was a very popular Disney movie at the time, so they called her Bambi by default. So for me it's sentimental."

Molly-Mae and Tommy fans have been divided in their reaction to their daughter's name. Many say it's a "sweet name for a girl", while others are more concerned about how she's going to feel as an adult.

Bambi has first-hand experience of having a unique name, which also comes with its disadvantages.

She explained: "I think the worst thing about being called Bambi is that it's quite 'babyish'. Even though I'm an adult now, people always say 'aww that's so cute'. It's a name you don't really imagine having as an adult, as much as a kid".

Although Bambi has never met another person with the same name, she says there are definitely positives that come from being called something so unusual.

She explained: "The best thing is that it is unusual. What a lot of people say is that they remember my name when I tell them. I'm terrible [at remembering names]. When people tell me their names I forget it in about 10 seconds. The reaction I get when I tell people is quite nice, it's quite endearing."

In general, the reaction Bambi gets when she tells people her name is that they "like it" even though it's an "odd name", which she says is always a "good thing".
