MLB's Latino of the Night: Elly De La Cruz Introduces New Stat Line After Historic Night

SEATTLE - There's always a first time for everything, and last night was the case for Elly De La Cruz. On April 8, the Dominican produced a stat line never before seen in the history of the Majors.

De La Cruz was unplayable against the Brewers on Monday night, going 3-for-4 on the night. But that wasn't all. He connected his first two homers of the season in fashionable manner, with one of them going over the fence and the other one staying inside the park, each from a different side of the plate.

He added four runs and a stolen base to create a never-before seen stat line in MLB.

De La Cruz was electrifying and even added some of that spark to his speed for the inside-the-park base run. According to Statcast, De La Cruz's sprint speed was 30.1 feet-per-second and he rounded the bases in 14.96 seconds.

After a tough start to the 2024 season, the Dominican finally got his breakthrough against the Brewers, as he had struck out 17 times in 33 at-bats in his nine games prior. He improved his average from .242 to .297 and finished the night with the second two-HR game of his career.

Far from done, De La Cruz had another "first" at the end of the game, when he delivered an interview in English for the first time in his career.
