The body of a man missing in suspicious circumstances has been found on the outskirts of a tiny mining town in Western Australia.

Raymond Smith, 68, was last seen at about 5pm on December 7 in Greenbushes, 245km south of Perth.

Homicide detectives found his remains on Friday.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

WA Police want to hear from anyone with information about Mr Smith's movements after he was last seen and when he was reported missing on December 18.

Greenbushes' mining operations produce tantalite, lithium, tin and kaolin.

The town has a population of about 360 people.
