Shipping firm manager stabbed to death

The manager of a shipping office-cum-marine products selling firm at Thoppumpady was allegedly stabbed to death while he was at the firm on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Binoy Stanly, 45, of North Moolamkuzhi. The accused, identified as Alan Jose, 24, of Mundamveli, was arrested by a police team led by Mattancherry Assistant Commissioner of Police K.R. Manoj. Inspector A. Firoz made the arrest after the Thoppumpady police registered a case for murder.

The CCTV footage of the alleged brutal attack, which has since emerged, showed the accused chatting up with the victim before suddenly pulling out a hidden knife and stabbing the victim multiple times. On being alerted about the incident, the police rushed to the scene with an ambulance and shifted the victim to the Karuvelipady government hospital. However, he was declared brought dead. The police registered the case based on a complaint lodged by the proprietor of the firm.

The proprietor said Binoy was also his friend and had engaged him as the manager of the firm since its launch a year ago on account of his experience of working with a shipping firm abroad. Binoy, he said, was threatened by Alan on several occasions in the past. “We had asked him to lodge a police petition. In fact, Binoy had told Alan’s father about the alleged threats by Alan last week,” the proprietor said.

“There was no eyewitness to the attack. Two of his friends had just left the firm when the suspect walked in and attacked him,” the proprietor said.

The police have also invoked the charge under IPC Section 449 (house trespass).
