Rail passengers have been hit with delays and cancellations this morning after a major line into Manchester Piccadilly has been blocked.

Trains between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester Piccadilly are facing severe delays or cancellations due to 'overhead wire problems' at Macclesfield. Northern Rail are warning passengers that trains running to and from these stations will be delayed by up to 30 minutes.

Alternative travel arrangements are being offered to affected customers, according to Northern Rail. Delays are currently expected until around 10am on Wednesday (May 24).
