Leeds United news as Andy Gray and Richard Keys give predictions ahead of Sam Allardyce's arrival

Here are your latest Leeds United headlines for Wednesday, May 3.

Gray and Keys' view

Former Sky Sports presenters Andy Gray and Richard Keys have discussed Sam Allardyce's impending arrival at Elland Road. The ex-Everton striker believes Allardyce is the right man to shore up the Whites' leaky backline.

However, Gray fears Leeds may only add three or four points in their remaining games to reach a maximum of 34, and believes teams will need to reach a total of 35 or 36 points to survive. On the other hand, Keys believes Allardyce will be capable of leading his latest club to pick up results against both reigning champions Manchester City and high-flying Newcastle United.

Keys told beIN Sports: "It wouldn't surprise me to see him go to City and dig something out. It wouldn't surprise me to see him beat Newcastle."

Gray responded: "Really? Listen, it'd be great if he does, it'd be a wonderful job for Sam just to show people he's back again. It's so nice to see people like him, Neil Warnock, Roy Hodgson, all back in the game and doing ever so well.

"People who were told the game has moved on and left them behind. Actually, no it hasn't."

Allardyce's blueprint

Sam Allardyce has explained what a team fighting for Premier League survival needs, as he prepares to take over at Leeds United.

The 68-year-old is expected to replace Javi Gracia in the Elland Road dugout after a torrid month under the Spaniard has seen the Whites fail to escape the clutches of the relegation battle.

However, one thing that Allardyce must do if he arrives at Leeds is bolster up the defence with Leeds leaking goals like they're going out of fashion - something that he believes is the first thing any manager must do in a relegation battle.

Robinson's Orta criticism

Paul Robinson says Victor Orta must take his "fair share" of the blame for Leeds United's struggles in the Premier League. Orta drew the curtain on his six-year spell at Elland Road after it was announced by the club that he had left by mutual consent on Tuesday.

The Spaniard was responsible for overseeing the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa, and the signings of Mateusz Klich, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford. All four played a key role in leading Leeds to the Championship title in 2020, but his recruitment since achieving promotion to the Premier League has been questionable.

While there have been success stories such as Raphinha, Wilfried Gnonto and, until recent weeks, Illan Meslier, there have also been a few howlers on the market. None more so than the debacle which followed the purchase of Jean-Kevin Augustin, while the club record signing of Georginio Rutter has failed to have the desired effect as of yet.
