Iran Blames Israel And US For Attack On Consulate

Israel supporters protest about the conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Bogota

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has accused Israel of being behind the recent attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. However, he also pointed fingers at the United States, attributing responsibility to the US due to its support of Israel.

The strained relations between Tehran and Washington were highlighted by the minister's remarks, emphasizing Iran's discontent with the US backing of Israel.

Amir-Abdollahian conveyed the strong message through a post on X, revealing that the Swiss chargé d'affaires in Tehran was summoned by Iran's Foreign Ministry to discuss the incident. Switzerland, known for representing US interests in Iran, was involved in the diplomatic exchange.

During the meeting, Iran detailed the alleged terrorist attack by the Israeli regime and emphasized the American administration's accountability for its support of Israel. The minister underscored that the United States should be held responsible for the consequences of backing the Zionist regime.

Regarding the attack itself, the Israel Defense Forces have not publicly commented on the incident that Iran claims resulted in the deaths of two commanders and several others. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari disputed Iran's assertion that the targeted building was a consulate, stating that it was actually a military facility of Quds forces disguised as a civilian structure in Damascus.

Additionally, reports from Israeli sources indicated that four unnamed Israeli officials acknowledged Israel's involvement in the attack, further complicating the situation between the involved parties.
