Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' Dominates Guild Of Music Supervisors Awards

Greta Gerwig's Barbie emerged victorious at the 14th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards, securing accolades for best music supervision for a film budgeted over $25 million and best song written and/or recorded for a film. The film's success was highlighted by George Drakoulias, who clinched both awards, with the latter recognizing the song 'What Was I Made For?' performed by Billie Eilish and penned by Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.

Notable winners at the event included Frankie Pine, who received two awards for her contributions to 'Daisy Jones & the Six,' and Alex Hackford, who also claimed two honors for his work on the video game 'Marvel's Spider-Man 2.' The late Robbie Robertson, composer for 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' was posthumously honored with the Icon Award, commemorated through a tribute performance by Margo Price, Rocco DeLuca, and Johnny Sheppard.

Additionally, Allan Mason was bestowed with the Legacy Award, while various industry figures such as Nia Vardalos, Ben Platt, and Mark Ronson graced the event as presenters. The evening featured captivating performances, including Dan Wilson's rendition of 'It Never Went Away' from the film 'American Symphony' and India Carney's performance of 'I Found You' from the series 'The L Word: Generation Q.'

The awards spanned various categories, recognizing outstanding music supervision in film, television, documentaries, advertising, trailers, and video games. Noteworthy winners included Gabe Hilfer for 'The White Lotus Season 2' in the television drama category, Jonathan Finegold for 'Little Richard: I Am Everything' in documentaries, and Scott McDaniel for 'Run This Town – The Road to Halftime Starts on Rihanna Drive' in advertising.

The event also celebrated achievements in music supervision for trailers and video games, with Angel Mendoza winning for 'Killers of the Flower Moon' in the film trailer category and Alex Hackford recognized for 'Marvel's Spider-Man 2' in video games. The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards showcased the diverse talents and contributions of music supervisors across various entertainment mediums, underscoring the vital role of music in enhancing storytelling and audience engagement.
