Greg Vaughan Hospitalized With Severe Altitude Sickness During Colorado Vacation

Greg Vaughan

Greg Vaughan, known for his role in Days of Our Lives, recently shared on Instagram that he was hospitalized and diagnosed with severe altitude sickness after a trip to Colorado with his sons. The actor, aged 50, took his sons to Breckenridge for a skiing and snowboarding vacation but started experiencing symptoms like fatigue, headaches, congestion, and shortness of breath.

Despite hydrating and taking over-the-counter remedies, Vaughan's condition worsened, leading him to seek medical attention. He was diagnosed with severe altitude sickness, with his blood oxygen level dropping to 54% and his lungs filling with fluids. Altitude sickness occurs when the body struggles to adjust to high altitudes, resulting in decreased oxygen intake.

Following treatment that included IV fluids and oxygen therapy, Vaughan's blood oxygen level improved to 94%. He was advised to descend from the mountain immediately. Altitude sickness is common in Colorado ski resorts, especially at high altitudes above sea level.

Vaughan, who recently got engaged to actress Angie Harmon, shares three sons with his ex-wife. In 2020, he announced his departure from Days of Our Lives, although episodes featuring him were pre-recorded and continue to air.

Travelers to high-altitude areas are advised to acclimate gradually over several days to prevent altitude sickness. Vaughan's experience serves as a reminder of the importance of being cautious when traveling to high altitudes and seeking prompt medical attention if symptoms arise.
