'Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire' Dominates Box Office Again

Office workers pick up lunch boxes at a convenience store in Seoul

This weekend, movie enthusiasts can look forward to the release of two new films, 'The First Omen' and 'Monkey Man,' alongside the reigning box office champion, 'Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.'

Leading the pack is 'Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire,' which dominated the box office last week with an impressive $80 million opening. As it enters its second weekend, the Monsterverse sequel is projected to rake in between $32 million and $36 million, solidifying its global success with over $200 million in earnings.

In the battle for second place, 'The First Omen' and 'Monkey Man' are vying for audience attention. 'The First Omen,' a horror prequel to the iconic 1976 film 'The Omen,' kicked off its box office run with $725,000 in previews. The film is anticipated to secure a second-place finish, with estimated earnings ranging from $14 million to $15 million. Set in Rome during the early 1970s, the movie delves into the chilling origins of the Antichrist and features a talented cast including Nell Tiger Free, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, and Bill Nighy.

Meanwhile, 'Monkey Man,' directed, co-written, and starring Dev Patel, opened slightly higher with $1.4 million. The action thriller, which was initially slated for Netflix before being acquired by Universal and Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, is poised for a third-place debut with an expected $12 million in ticket sales. The film takes audiences on a gripping revenge journey set in India, showcasing Patel's intense action sequences reminiscent of the popular 'John Wick' franchise.

While both 'The First Omen' and 'Monkey Man' offer unique cinematic experiences, they face a formidable opponent in the form of 'Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire.' With its colossal box office success and continued strong performance, the monster showdown is set to maintain its dominance at the box office, leaving the newcomers to battle for the remaining top spots.
