Geno Smith gets commitment from Seahawks for 2024

One of the biggest pieces of speculation surrounding the Seattle Seahawks this offseason revolves around quarterback Geno Smith. With Pete Carroll no longer the head coach, Smith’s future in the Emerald City seemed to be up in the air. Recent moves by the Seahawks ensured Smith would receive his money, but that alone is not always enough in the NFL.

However, it has been recently reported that Seattle’s brass has informed Smith he will in fact be a Seahawk for the 2024 season. Once thought to be a potential cut or even a trade possibility, the now two-time Pro Bowl quarterback is still very much in the plans for Seattle.

I recently wrote about how the Seahawks are wise to keep Geno Smith involved in their plans. Now, we get a more concrete idea of what the quarterback situation will be like when the season rolls around. Smith is objectively a good quarterback, and no one in the league was more clutch than him last year – or shoot, inarguably anyone in one single season in league history. Smith set an NFL record for most game winning drives and go-ahead touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Although, it should be mentioned, keeping Smith in the mix for 2024 does not mean the Seahawks can’t make other moves at quarterback. The 2024 NFL draft is a solid quarterbacks class, and Seattle would be wise to use this opportunity to attempt to find their next franchise signal caller. Perhaps one who could study under Smith for a season.

But for now, we appear to be entering into Year 3 of the Geno Smith Era. Smith may not have been perfect in 2023, but he was hardly the biggest issue when it came to the offense’s inconsistency. I for one am excited to see how Smith and the Seahawks offense operate under new leadership from offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
