Flash Floods In Oman Claim 17 Lives, Schools Closed

17 lives lost in Oman due to recent flash floods.

Recent heavy rainfall in Oman has led to devastating flash floods, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 17 lives, as reported by the country's National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM). The severe weather conditions have prompted the government to take swift action to ensure the safety of its citizens.

On Tuesday, work for employees and workers in both public and private sectors was suspended in five governorates, namely Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, and Al Dakhiliyah, due to the ongoing inclement weather. To accommodate the situation, the government has permitted employees to work remotely where feasible.

In response to the challenging conditions, authorities in Oman have initiated extensive rescue operations. Additionally, all schools in six governorates, including Muscat, were closed on Monday due to the unstable weather conditions, as announced by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).

The weather forecast for the region indicates that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to persist across northeastern and northern Oman in the coming days. This forecast underscores the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared for further adverse weather events.

The government's proactive measures and emergency response efforts are crucial in mitigating the impact of the flash floods and ensuring the safety and well-being of the population. As the situation continues to evolve, it is essential for residents to stay informed, follow official guidance, and prioritize their safety during this challenging period.
