Fearne Cotton shows off dress she bought in 'delirious state' and wore to a funeral

Fearne Cotton has shared a picture of one of the "happiest outfits" she has ever worn and explained the reason she wore it to a funeral. The broadcaster and author shared a snap of herself wearing a bright pink dress with a huge heart sewn into its centre.

She explained that she wore the extravagant dress to her friend Kris Hallenga's funeral. The Sun columnist and founder of breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! died of cancer but organised her own funeral.

But Kris (who went by the handle @howtoglitteraturd on Instagram) organised her own funeral and declared the event a FUNeral. And the guests were asked to join in with its unique dress code.

Taking to Instagram, Fearne shared a picture of the dress. She said: "@howtoglitteraturd stated that for her FUNeral the dress code was 'you only die once'. We were encouraged to wear that one outfit we had always wanted to. Whether it was fancy dress, a wedding dress, or something we hadn't found the occasion for previously."

She went on to explain how she bought the dress when she was in a "delirious state". She bought it about seven years ago while her daughter was still very young.

"It was one of those spontaneous purchases at 4am when I was feeding baby Honey and couldn't get back to sleep," she said. "In my delirious state, I saw this dress online and imagined it would change me from tired mum to extravagant awake person.

"Obviously it arrived in the post and I thought, what the hell am I gonna do with this? Little did I know it would bring me immense joy down the line. Thank you to Kris for encouraging us all to wear happy outfits and to go wild for the day."

Fans online agreed with the sentiment. Many joined in with the idea of encouraging others to wear whatever made them feel happy.

Mandilou70 said: "Absolutely this! I don’t save things for best now - if I want to wear a fancy dress to the supermarket why not! I’m living with secondary breast cancer so know all to well to make the best of every day!"

So_this_is_stage4 added: "Wear the outfits, use the "special occasion" glasses, use the fancy room!!!! What are we waiting for??? You look amazing."
