Emmerdale Caleb clues you missed: Tate hints, revenge plan and secret money troubles

Emmerdale viewers may have missed some crucial clues over the past three months, that gave away Caleb Miligan's huge lies.

The son of Faith Dingle found his secret exposed during Thursday's episode, as he was revealed to be the father of fellow newcomer Nicky.

Caleb has a mystery estranged wife too, but the biggest twist of all revealed that his own father was none other than Frank Tate - a past character on the ITV soap, who was married to Kim Tate.

Now, scenes and interviews from the past three months have revealed that the clues were there all along - from hints that he no longer had money like he claimed to, to the fact he was linked to the Tates.

From suggestions of revenge and his reasons for being in the village, certain scenes and comments from cast members now all add up.

The character appeared to hint at his money woes a number of times on the soap, in scenes that did spark suspicion at the time.

From staying over in the village a handful of times to going on about his lavish lifestyle, of course it was all too good to be true.

There was a scene in December when 'rich' Caleb had a very empty wallet as spotted by his sister-in-law Moira Dingle.

One viewer tweeted at the time: "Did anyone else see Caleb’s wallet looking a bit worse for wear? Maybe he’s broke and wants to swindle the village out of some cash…," while another noted: "Caleb's wallet was definitely on the empty side."

Caleb also became very keen to go into business with Kim, with it now confirmed he's after Home Farm and what he believes he is owed.

He kept pushing until she agreed despite her and partner Will Taylor not being entirely confident about it, while his desire to go into business with the Tates should have been enough to suggest there was a motive.

There were also hints to Caleb possibly having a family, despite him and actor Will Ash not going into detail.

Will said in December: "Possibly. I think so. I don’t know any of this but he might have been married or divorced and have kids."

Perhaps there was even a clue to Frank being Caleb's dad in Caleb's childhood story, with his love of horses.

Caleb actor Will said he worked at the stables as a youngster and eventually, as he grew up, he made a lot of money in selling horses.

He said: "Caleb has made a lot of money from horses, so he's got a lot of money. Caleb grew up in a care home and it was horrible. But there [were] stables across the field and he used to go up there.

"He found solace there. As a really little kid, he used to ride the horses and work in the stables, and then started training them. He then started selling them, and he's made a lot of money. I mean a lot of money - he's got a really nice car!"

Back in the 90s, Kim also showed her love for the animal and she had her own horses at Home Farm as bought by Frank.

There were also hints of a revenge plot from the start, but viewers were led to believe it was aimed at the Dingles.

Will said in December: "He has grown up without a family, he's not found his mum and has missed out on the opportunity of knowing who she was. So there’s a lot going on, so I'd say there could be revenge."

A cryptic phone call about him reeling in a male character also seemed to be about Will and not Cain Dingle, Caleb's brother - while it seems Nicky was the person on the other end of the phone.

Another clue linked to this was when Caleb told his brother Cain Dingle the real reason he was going into business with Dingle enemy Kim.

He said in a scene earlier this year that his friendship with Kim was all an act, and that those at Home Farm were "in the way" as he planned to take "it all".

Another scene saw him compliment Home Farm, before telling Kim their new venture was going to make him a lot of money.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
