Ed Harris is set to direct an adaptation of Kim Zupan’s acclaimed neo-noir novel The Ploughmen. The movie will feature a star-studded cast including Nick Nolte, Bill Murray, Owen Teague, Amy Madigan, and Lily Harris. Production is scheduled to begin in Montana this Fall.

The Ploughmen tells the story of a peculiar friendship that forms between a troubled young deputy sheriff and a notorious elderly murderer. John Gload, portrayed by Nick Nolte, is a skilled killer who has finally been captured. Val Millimaki, played by Owen Teague, is a junior member of the Copper County Sheriff department tasked with investigating a series of murders. Sheriff, portrayed by Bill Murray, assigns Val to the night shift in an attempt to extract information from Gload about his past. As Val interacts with his prisoner, he discovers unexpected similarities and seeks guidance from him, leading to a risky relationship.

The film will be produced by Ed Harris, Ginger Sledge, and Robert Knott, along with Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady of BCDF Pictures. Sales for the movie are being handled by Concourse Media and CAA Media Finance at the Cannes Film Festival.

Ed Harris, known for his roles in films like Love Lies Bleeding, will be directing his third feature following his work on Appaloosa and Pollock. Nick Nolte, who recently appeared in projects like Poker Face and The Mandalorian, will take on the role of John Gload. Bill Murray, currently starring in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, will play the Sheriff. Owen Teague, seen in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will portray Val Millimaki.
