Drake Bell Opens Up About Sharing His Story Publicly

Drake Bell

Drake Bell recently shared his reasons for deciding to speak out about his experience in the docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The 37-year-old actor revealed that he initially hesitated to participate in the series due to a negative past encounter with a different documentary project.

Bell recounted a previous documentary request for his involvement, which resulted in a hurtful response when he declined. Feeling criticized for not speaking out, he became cautious and apprehensive about discussing the topic when approached for Quiet on Set. However, he found comfort in one of the directors, Emma Schwartz, who approached him with sensitivity and authenticity.

After establishing a rapport with Schwartz, Bell agreed to meet with her in Los Angeles for an interview. Despite feeling vulnerable sharing his story with a relative stranger, he found the experience surprisingly comfortable. Following the interview, Bell entered rehab, where he confronted unresolved issues from his past trauma.

Upon his release from rehab, Bell felt closer to being ready to share his story publicly. He acknowledged the internal struggle he faced about involving his father, Joe Bell, in the documentary but ultimately saw it as an opportunity for both of them to find closure and understanding.

In 2004, Brian Peck, Bell's former dialogue coach, pleaded no contest to charges related to the abuse Bell endured as a minor actor. Peck served time in prison and is a registered sex offender.

Bell's decision to speak out serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing and confronting issues of sexual abuse.
