Renowned filmmaker and Oscar winner Damien Chazelle has announced his next project with Paramount Pictures. Chazelle, best known for his critically acclaimed film La La Land, will both write and direct this upcoming feature, the plot of which is currently being kept under wraps.
The movie is set to be produced under Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton's Wild Chickens Productions banner, as part of their exclusive first-look deal with Paramount that was established in 2022. While specific plot details remain undisclosed and casting decisions have yet to be finalized, the project has been marked as a top priority for the studio.
Chazelle is also involved as a producer on another Paramount film, Heart of the Beast, directed by David Ayer. This collaboration falls within his existing first-look agreement with the studio. Chazelle's previous work with Paramount includes the Hollywood epic Babylon, featuring A-list stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, Babylon managed to gross $63 million worldwide, with a domestic box office return of $15.3 million against an $80 million budget.
The announcement of Chazelle's new project was made during Paramount's presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the studio unveiled a diverse slate of upcoming films. Among the highlights were plans for a new Scary Movie installment and a live-action, R-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature. The Chazelle-directed film is slated for release in the studio's 2025/26 calendar.
Chazelle, whose directorial debut Whiplash garnered widespread acclaim, has since worked on projects such as First Man starring Ryan Gosling and the Netflix series The Eddy. He is represented by the talent agency WME.
