Authorities in Mexico are intensifying efforts to locate three missing tourists, including a US citizen, who disappeared during a surfing and camping trip near Ensenada. The trio, identified as American Jack Carter Rhoad and Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, were reported missing on April 29.
During the ongoing search, officials discovered a vehicle, tents, and a cell phone in the area where the men were last seen. Baja California's chief public prosecutor, Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez, revealed that investigators are examining evidence found at the site where the friends were believed to have been last seen.
Three Mexican nationals are currently being questioned in connection with the case, although their status as suspects remains unclear. The region of Baja California, where the disappearance occurred, has experienced cartel violence in recent years, although such incidents are rare in tourist areas like Ensenada.
The mother of the missing Australian brothers expressed deep concern over their disappearance, particularly highlighting Callum's diabetes condition. Jake, a 30-year-old doctor, and Callum, a 33-year-old member of Australia's national lacrosse team, were last heard from on April 27.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also voiced worry over the situation, emphasizing the need for a positive outcome. Mexican authorities are collaborating with US and Australian counterparts to coordinate search efforts and gather information related to the case.
