Coastal cottage that is actually a large four-storey modern home with the beach at the end of the garden

From the front this property looks like a compact cottage located on a prime seaside village street that can offer you maybe more character than space - but looks can be deceiving.

This coastal abode is nothing like you are probably expecting, as it extends downwards into the rear garden to create four fabulous floors of accommodation that are hidden from the street; a quaint cottage it is not.

Inside there's no exposed beams, inglenook fireplace or tactile stone walls or any other, maybe expected, traditional cottage features and interiors. Here, the look is contemporary and cool, with spacious rooms that have not only been knocked together to create sociable spaces but afford a modern interior design update.

This renovation project has produced a four bedroom family home that is not only full of versatile spaces, it has also ensured that the most impressive aspect of the house - the location - has been at the core of the update.

At the top of the four levels of space is the loft, the home's crown that has been converted into a master bedroom with a wall of windows that runs almost the entire width of the house to make the most of the sea view and invite the sound of the waves creeping up the beach to be your daily night time lullaby.

And it's the beach and the sea that push the price of this property up towards the £1m mark as it is one of only a handful that can boast direct access to the beach at the end of its garden in the popular Pembrokeshire coastal village of Saundersfoot.

The house is large, the garden is big, the coastal vista is vast and it includes a pretty harbour and the village itself. The mesmerising view is complemented by the home's direct access onto the stunning sandy shore of Saundersfoot beach so only a few seconds from house to sandy toes.

Website Visit Pembrokeshire describes the beach as wide, flat and sandy at low tide but with still plenty of space at high tide, flanked by a pretty village harbour and even more stunning sea views from the top of the hill.

Saundersfoot itself is classed as a 'small but very popular resort with all the facilities you might need, with regular events including The World Cawl Cooking Championships'.

And the lucky new owner of this beach-hugging home might be well equipped to enter the cawl competition, as the kitchen on the ground floor has been completely transformed into a modern hub of the home that can surely impress any cook with integrated appliances include double electric oven, double fridge freezers, and an electric induction hob with overhead extractor fan.

There's a dishwasher too that can easily cope with all the cawl-caked washing up, plus an island unit that can tick the kitchen 'must have' box for so many house hunters.

And if contemporary is your interior design style of choice, the kitchen can easily pop a tick in this box too, with the island unit sporting a concrete-style facade, stainless steel making an appearance, and glossy white handleless units combining to create a visually winning picture.

The generous ground floor accommodation is based around this impressive kitchen diner, with the eating area bathed in natural light from the large roof lantern above and the bank of bi-fold doors at the end of the space.

Throw these doors open and there is, of course, a garden to be found up a few steps that has breath-taking, uninterrupted sea views and skyscapes to render you speechless. There's a patio at the end of the garden too that is the prime spot for the beach and sea views, as well as the way to get directly to the beach.

Just a quick nosey glance over the garden fence, or out of the upper floor windows, will get you an eye full of the neighbour's stunning outside space and a hint at what this garden could become with a bit more work.

The ground floor can also offer a handy extra shower room as well as a utility room, and stairs up to the next level of this generous abode.

Up to this first floor and the lounge occupies the sea-facing side of the house and it's in here there's a hint at the age of the cottage with the maybe surprise discovery of a bay window looking out over the remarkable sea view, which is of course enhanced by the elevated position of this room.

The house has been renovated but it is now a blank canvas for the new owner to have the best time ever deciding on the interior design for each space.

But maybe two extras they could consider for this main living room is a Juliet balcony within the bay window itself so the summer sea breezes can join the space, and a log burner to make a cosy winter hideaway, and the best place in the home to get cosy in an armchair and watch the winter storms rage across the sky and churn up the ocean.

The log burner might be a goer, located on the side wall that isn't attached to another property as this semi-detached home but, of course, both suggestions need expert building and planning advice. Even without these summer and winter bonuses, the living room will become a most welcoming space with the sea and beach view as a constant resident.

Further inspection reveals that there is a cute little space off the living room that has a door out onto the roof of the kitchen diner that is labelled as a balcony. Once this has been checked for health and safety points, which surely includes a glass balustrade so you don't fall off plus a way to make sure you don't trip on the roof lantern, this bonus space makes a perfect extra balcony.

Again, be naughty and nosey and check out what the neighbours have done for inspiration and it's rather clever - their balcony even has added steps down to the garden so getting to the beach from this level is easy and does not entail traipsing through the kitchen diner below.

Up to the third floor and there are two more bedrooms (John Francis, Tenby / rightmove)

This living room level is at street level, so the front door and main hallway join the fourth bedroom and a cloakroom within this floor of accommodation. If four bedrooms aren't needed, this room at the front could become a perfect home office, away from the distracting sea views and the temptation to ignore work and head for the sand.

The next level up - if you're keeping count it's the third one - has two further bedrooms with the rear beach-facing space also boasting a bay window, plus a family bathroom. The top floor, number four, is the master suite that can boast another plush bathroom.

Visiting any of the three bathrooms in this renovated house will welcome you with spaces that have been lavished in luxury interiors, including baths with bubble jets, heated towel rails, and sleek tiling that gives them the five-star hotel treatment.

But of course it's the location that is the number one selling point at this lovely home, with uninterrupted and some would say priceless views along the bay to Amroth towards Mumbles and Monkstone Point, as well as the picturesque harbour. The cherry on the yummy property cake is the direct access to the beach that only a handful of houses in this delightful coastal village can boast.
