Chelsea player ratings vs Man City: Nicolas Jackson misses prove costly with Enzo Fernandez sloppy in midfield

Chelsea suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 semi-final defeat to Manchester City despite dominating the entire 90 minutes.

Bernardo Silva turned in Kevin De Bruyne’s low cross in the 84th-minute to win the game for a tired-looking team, who lost after 120 minutes in midweek against Real Madrid.

There was anger Chelsea didn’t win a penalty after Cole Palmer’s free-kick appeared to strike Jack Grealish’s arm.

But Chelsea should have put City away, with Nicolas Jackson particularly guilty of wasting chances.

Djordje Petrovic - 7

The Serb handled the pressure occasion well but wasn’t busy until Doku tested him with a low shot late on.

Malo Gusto - 7

The young defender dealt well when Jack Grealish, Julian Alvarez and De Bruyne tried to triple up on his side and did enough to keep them at bay while attacking well. Substituted after overstretching.

Thiago Silva - 5

He looked a bit shaky early on, and some of his passes went astray.

Trevoh Chalobah - 7

Quietly went about his business with little trouble.

Marc Cucurella - 5

Almost made a catastrophic error minutes into the match but got away with it and recovered.

Moises Caicedo - 7

Coped well with some poor passing and helped control a tired City.

Enzo Fernandez - 4

The Argentine was sloppy with his passing and not in the game enough, but he created a big chance for Jackson.

Cole Palmer - 7

Palmer was again Chelsea’s main man but just couldn’t get himself any chances. He produced some incredible passes, shot from 45 yards and had his one effort in the box saved.

Conor Gallagher - 7

Bizarrely played on the left wing and surprisingly made it work, excellent in his passing and physicality.

Noni Madueke - 5

Madueke looked sharp, but his shooting wasn’t good enough.

Nicolas Jackson - 4

Jackson wasted half a dozen chances, most notably failing to shoot when rounding Stefan Ortega, missing another one-on-one and having several other tame efforts.

Substitutes

Axel Disasi - 5

City’s goal came down Disasi’s side shortly after he came on.

Mykhailo Mudryk - 5

Overhit a cross after coming on but had little impact.

Ben Chilwell - 4

Chilwell had the chance to create an equaliser in the 90th minute but passed too late.

Raheem Sterling - N/A

Unused subs Bettinelli, Badiashile, Gilchrist, Chukwuemeka, Washington
