Celtic to face Wolves in Dublin as Aviva Stadium date pencilled in after South Korea tour no go

Celtic and Wolves WILL face each other this pre-season with a new date and venue confirmed.

Brendan Rodgers will take his men to Dublin following their summer tour of Japan to face the English Premier League outfit at the Aviva Stadium. The match will take place on July 29 and begin at 2pm as both sides confirm another fixture on the pre-season schedule following the withdrawal of their trip to South Korea.

The Hoops are no stranger to playing at the Aviva with games against the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Inter Milan over the years as the huge fan base in Ireland get the chance to turn out at the Irish national team stadium to catch their heroes in action. Tickets will go on general sale to fans at 9am tomorrow.

Russell Jones, Wolves’ general manager for marketing and commercial growth, said: “We are really excited to be heading back to Ireland for the first time in almost 10 years for this match against Celtic.

“Both ourselves and Celtic were extremely disappointed to have been forced to withdraw from our tour of South Korea this summer, but we are pleased that we have been able to rearrange this pre-season fixture – and couldn’t have wished for a better replacement venue than Dublin and the Aviva Stadium.

“Wolves have enjoyed some thrilling meetings with Celtic in the past and we’re sure that this game will be the same, as well as a great opportunity for Julen and his squad to prepare for our Premier League season.”

A Celtic statement read: "We are delighted to announce that Celtic will be visiting Dublin, Ireland this July for an exciting pre-season game with English Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"Following the conclusion of the Hoops' summer tour of Japan, Brendan Rodgers will take his team over the Irish Sea to face Wolves at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, July 29, with kick-off at 2pm.

"Celtic enjoy huge support across Ireland and have previously visited the Irish National Team’s home stadium for matches in 2016, 2013 and 2011, playing the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

"It’s another opportunity for Celtic fans to gather in Dublin and see the Treble winners in action ahead of the new season and we are looking forward to another successful visit to the Aviva Stadium.

"Tickets for the Wolverhampton Wanderers game will go on general sale at 9am on Thursday, July 13."
