CCTV appeal after man punched in head on train after argument over talking on phone

Police have issued a CCTV appeal after a man was repeatedly punched in the head on a train after getting into an argument with a boy speaking loudly on a phone.

The victim was on board a train travelling between Manchester Piccadilly and Crewe at around 8pm on February 18 when the two were involved in a 'verbal alternation.'

The man then moved down the train to get off at Holmes Chapel - but was followed by the boy who repeatedly punched him in the head. The attacker then got off at Crewe and boarded a Cardiff-bound service.

The victim suffered a deep cut on his lip that required stitches, as well as bruising on his head and ear.

Detectives have now released CCTV images of a person who may have information that could help their investigation.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 8.06pm on 18 February, the victim boarded a train at Manchester Piccadilly. During his journey he had a verbal altercation with a boy who was speaking loudly on his mobile phone.

"The victim then moved down the train to alight at Holmes Chapel. The boy followed him down the train and repeatedly punched him in the head. The boy got off the train at Crewe and boarded a Cardiff-bound service."

Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 170 of 20 February.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
