Call The Midwife's Helen George wows BBC viewers with 'career change' in Big Night of Musicals

Helen George left Call The Midwife fans stunned and totally dazzled on Saturday night, when they watched her thrive in her new role away from the hit BBC drama.

Earlier this year popular actress Helen, famous to millions of viewers for being Trixie Franklin, announced that she had taken on a role that she called "a dream come true" - getting to play Anna in The King and I. Helen has now been in the role for a few months and those who hadn't yet seen her on stage had a front row seat in their living rooms when she performed as part of the National Lottery's Big Night of Musicals, which went out on BBC One this weekend.

The theatre spectacular, filmed at Manchester's AO Arena last month, united casts from 13 different shows, including Six, Matilda and We Will Rock You and Helen also stepped into the spotlight along with her King and I co-star to sing classic track Shall We Dance. And Helen's star turn and her very different hair colour, quickly became a real talking point online amongst BBC viewers online.

Among the many tweets that poured in about Helen's performance, a third read: "My god Helen George has an incredible voice and she looks beautiful."

As her famous Call The Midwife alter-ego Trixie, former Strictly contestant Helen was at the forefront of the recent series 12 finale, when she married other half Matthew in a ceremony thank thankfully, went off without a hitch, after a few issues ahead of the big day.
