Blur star Alex James starts selling cheese in Morrisons

Blur star Alex James is starting to sell cheese in Morrisons. The musician - who turned to farming and cheesemaking when his band went on hiatus in the early 2000s - is offering his Blue Monday cheese for sale exclusively through the supermarket chain.

The award-winning cheese is named after the bass player's favourite song, released by New Order in 1983. The partnership with Morrisons comes as James takes part in a Blur reunion, with the group having just played two dates at Wembley as they prepare to release a brand new album titled The Ballad of Darren.

Blue Monday is made in partnership with Yorkshire-based artisan cheese producers Shepherds Purse. Morrisons describes its flavours as "complex, creating a creamy soft cheese with bold cracks and streaks of blue which echo its namesake", adding: "Overall, the cheese is spicy and sweet with an underlying savouriness."

The cheese will be available in 100g hand-wrapped wedges in over 200 Morrisons stores nationwide.

James said: "Blue Monday is a world beating British cheese, made with love by the wonderful team at Shepherds Purse. It pairs brilliantly with sparkling wine, beer or cider. Smush it on a Frazzle for the ultimate canapé. It goes well with pears, beetroot, cobnuts and even honey and is perfect for sweet dreams at bedtime."

Morrisons recommends pairing Blue Monday with two of its other products - The Best Cheeseboard Cracker Selection and The Best Bramley Apple & Pear Chutney.
