Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd 'bans parents from watching Netflix show'

Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd has reportedly warned his parents against watching the hit show.

The six-part semi-autobiographical series is based on a one-man play written by and starring Gadd, who also leads the six-part Netflix series.

It follows a fictionalised version of himself called Donny, an aspiring comedian who inadvertently befriends a woman called Martha who launches a terrifying stalking campaign against him, before turning her wrath onto his parents.

The show also addresses how Donny is raped by a male television producer who had been grooming him.

Since its release last month, it has been topping the streaming giant’s viewership ratings, gaining 22 million views in three weeks.

Now, according to the MailOnline, Gadd has revealed he has banned his parents from watching, adding that he pays for their Netflix account so will know if they do.

Gadd spoke further about this in a video for Netflix to promote the show’s release.

“My parents haven’t seen the show already and I’ve warned them against certain episodes,” the Scottish star explained.

Speaking on the portrayal of his parents in the series, he said: “It was very important to get my parents, what they’ve done for me, kind of in there. I think the things I’ve been through are pretty, you know, they take their toll on parents, and my biggest regret is putting them through some of the things I put them through.

“I couldn’t help it, but I feel bad about that. But I had nowhere else to turn, I needed my mum and my dad.

“They’ve been very special, and they’ve been there for me,” he continued. “But I really regret the worry I’ve caused them, which still continues to this day.
