Ax-wielding man enters New York Times building in Manhattan, demands to meet with politics staff

NEW YORK — A disgruntled 32-year-old man armed with a sword and an ax walked into the lobby of the New York Times building in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday, according to police.

He walked into the lobby of the newspaper’s headquarters on Eighth Ave. between W. 40th St. and W. 41st St. around 12:15 p.m., cops said.

Wielding the weapons, he demanded to speak to someone in the paper’s politics section, police said.

When building security denied his entrance, he calmly handed over the sword and ax and waited for police to arrive.

He was taken to Mount Sinai West for a psychiatric evaluation and was not immediately charged, according to cops.
