Ashley Young sends emotional message to Aston Villa fans ahead of Everton transfer

Ashley Young has sent a message to Aston Villa fans ahead of his impending move to Everton.

The Blues are set to announce their first signing under manager Sean Dyche after the 38-year-old underwent a medical ahead of the switch. Young was released by the Villa Park club at the end of last season as he helped guide Unai Emery's side to Europa Conference League qualification.

Everton are currently in Evian, France, for the start of their pre-season tour ahead of the upcoming Premier League season. The imminent arrival of Young will be the first piece of business of the summer as the club face financial difficulties.

Issues off the pitch have restricted their movement in the transfer window but Dyche is looking to reunite with a player he played alongside during his time at Watford.

In a post to social media on Wednesday, Young thanked Aston Villa fans and hinted that he will be facing them in the Premier League next season.

"Firstly I’d like to thank the players, all of you know what I said I wanted to achieve with you and after all the hard work we managed to achieve that," he wrote.

"Secondly thanks to the managers and staff that believed and trusted in me, you know who you are! And finally to you the fans who welcomed me back with open arms almost as if I had never left. I wish I was given the chance to say goodbye properly and show my appreciation to you, but I wasn’t given the answers to my questions before the last game of the season.

"Villa Park will always be a special place to me. UTV. See You Next Season…… Age really is just a number……"
