Arsenal officially complete first piece of summer transfer business as £5.9m windfall secured

Arsenal have officially secured their first sale of the summer transfer window.

Gunners defender Pablo Mari, who is currently on loan with Serie A outfit Monza, will leave the Emirates Stadium permanently at the end of the current campaign after his side drew 1-1 with AS Roma on Wednesday night. The Biancorossi have now confirmed their survival in the Italian top flight for next season, meaning Mari will join them on a permanent basis for £5.9 million.

football.london reported last year that the north Londoners would receive this windfall but only if Monza were able to stay up this season, with the Italian side now sitting 18 points above the relegation zone with just five matches left to play this term. Arsenal will be hoping that Mari is the first of many players out on loan to leave permanently this summer, with a number of other fringe players likely to leave in order to increase their transfer kitty as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad.

The likes of Nicolas Pepe, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Charlie Patino are some names currently on loan that have been linked with moves away in recent times. The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on Monday that the Gunners were open to facilitating Patino’s departure this summer, with the 19-year-old keen for consistent game time next season.

football.london has come to learn that it is very much a timing issue that has befallen Patino as the north London outfit look to close the gap between them and league-leaders Manchester City.
