'Almost too good to turn down' - Stan Collymore believes Liverpool should sign £12m star Man United are stalling on

Stan Collymore has urged Liverpool to move for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer following his loan spell with Manchester United.

Sabitzer spent the second half of the campaign at Old Trafford after finding regular starts in Bavaria hard to come by. There was an option to make the temporary move permanent to Erik ten Hag's side but so far they have opted against exercising it.

Like United, Liverpool are looking to reinforce their midfield, and have already done so by adding Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to the ranks. And they may not be done there with Romeo Lavia among under consideration by Reds chiefs following Southampton's relegation to the Championship last season.

As for the Red Devils, they are closing in on a £60m deal for Mason Mount from Chelsea. But it remains to be seen whether they will return for Sabitzer, who scored three goals in 18 games for United last season.

And Collymore believes the Austrian international would be a credible option for their biggest rivals. "There have been recent reports that the Bavarians are happy for the Austrian to leave permanently for a fee of just €15m (£12m) – if that is true, I cannot believe Manchester United haven’t snapped their hand off already," the former Liverpool striker told Caught Offside.

"If they’re not going to take Bayern Munich up on it, I wonder if Klopp will think about it.

"He’s proven he can play in the Premier League and that fee is almost too good to turn down, especially when it’s senior international-level midfielders you’re in the market for."
