All candidates for Texas House of Representatives District 6 complete Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey

Both of the candidates running in the Nov. 5, 2024, general election for Texas House of Representatives District 6 — Daniel Alders (R) and Cody Grace (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Here are the candidates’ responses to the question: What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Alders:

  • “East Texas is the best place to live, to raise a family, and to own a business. As a 7th generation East Texan, my goal is to make sure our community remains that way for the generations to come. I’m committed to serving in a fashion that is accountable to the voters, competent on the issues, and transparent in my role as an elected official. Voters deserve that, and I’m committed to leading with that kind of character.
  • I understand the proper limited role that government plays in governing the lives of free people. That role is broadly defined as follows: 1) To keep us free. 2) To keep us safe. 3) To provide an infrastructure for the free market to succeed and prosperity to be pursued and achieved.
  • Texas is growing, and growing quickly. We must get serious about providing bold, conservative, limited-government solutions that will keep our state one of the most successful economies in the world and remain a haven of opportunity for generations to come. Freedom is worth fighting for, and the values that made us and our nation exceptional are timeless truths that are worth defending. I look forward to standing on the front lines to do so.”

Grace:

  • “My goal is to limit the role that TX government has on healthcare. The state has created unnecessary barriers between patients and their doctors. These must come down. Politicians and elected officials have no place in the exam room. The state’s overreach has unnecessarily complicated the patient-doctor relationship, and I stand firm in my belief that healthcare decisions should be made without political influence. It is essential to dismantle these obstacles to ensure healthcare remains a private and personalized matter, free from the undue influence of politicians and elected officials.
  • As your representative, I’m committed to ensuring that our schools receive the funding they need to attract and retain the highest caliber of educators. I believe in a holistic approach to education, where the value of a student’s learning isn’t measured solely by standardized tests. Instead, I advocate for a more comprehensive evaluation system that recognizes diverse talents and achievements, fostering an environment where every student can thrive. This shift will not only enrich our educational landscape but also empower our teachers and students to excel beyond conventional metrics.
  • As your State Representative, I am committed to enhancing border security between Texas and Mexico through collaborative efforts with federal representatives on immigration reform. My strategy includes initiating day labor visa programs, enforcing E-Verify, and bolstering funding for border patrol to empower them to perform their duties more effectively. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure a balanced and secure immigration system.”
