Xavi Hernandez Requests Key Players To Stay At FC Barcelona

Tottenham outbid Barcelona to sign Lucas Bergvall, beating transfer competition

FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has made significant requests to the club in order to fulfill his contract, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Following a recent meeting with President Joan Laporta and other board members, Xavi has decided to remain in his position until his contract expires in 2025, contrary to his initial plan to step down in June.

Xavi emphasized the importance of the sporting project progressing and identified three key players he wishes to either retain or bring to the club. Despite speculation linking Ronald Araujo with a move to Bayern Munich, Xavi is determined to keep the center back, despite a recent costly error in the Champions League quarterfinal.

In terms of reinforcements, Xavi is keen on securing Manchester City's Bernardo Silva, a player Barcelona has pursued unsuccessfully in previous transfer windows. The club will need to work diligently to raise the necessary funds to trigger Silva's release clause.

Additionally, Xavi is looking for a suitable successor to Sergio Busquets in the midfield. While Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad were preferred options, economic constraints led to the acquisition of Oriol Romeu from Girona.

With the potential arrivals of Silva and either Kimmich or Zubimendi, along with Araujo staying at the club, Xavi appears poised for a positive outlook heading into the 2024/2025 season.
