'Woman with weapon' arrested as Wiltshire schools put into lockdown

A woman has been arrested after an incident at two schools in Wroughton, Wiltshire, this morning. Swindon Police confirmed a woman in her 30s was arrested after the schools were put into 'lockdown'.

Wroughton Junior School and the nearby Ridgeway School were both locked down following concerns about the behaviour of a woman on the Wroughton Junior site. No children or staff were hurt in the incident, a police statement posted on Facebook said.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assaulting an emergency worker, reports Wiltshire Live. Swindon Police say she is believed to have been experiencing a mental health crisis and is receiving appropriate care.

The lockdown has since been removed and lessons are now continuing as usual. Staff are supporting and reassuring the pupils, the statement added.

T/Supt Joseph Saunders said: “The public can expect to see an increased police presence at both schools today. Officers quickly responded and arrested a woman at the scene.

"For reassurance, there is no ongoing threat to pupils and staff at the school.”
