Two teenagers die and three seriously injured in three-vehicle crash in Northumberland

Two teenagers have died and three others have been seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash in Northumberland.

Connor Lapworth, 18, died at the scene while Corey Mavin, 15, died in hospital after suffering a head injury.

The crash took place on the A192 Hartford Bank, in Cramlington, on Friday.

Northumberland Police said the collision involved a Suzuki Vitara, a Range Rover Evoque and a Ford Focus.

Both of the teenagers who died, and two of those who suffered serious injuries – both men aged 41 and 17 – were in the Suzuki.

A 36-year-old woman in the Range Rover was also seriously injured.

The 52-year-old female driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.

A 35-year-old male driver, the sole occupant of the second vehicle, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning, the force said.

Northumbria Police said the reasons behind the collision are “yet to be established” and the force is asking any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Russell Surrey said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the two young people who have sadly lost their lives and those who have suffered injuries in this collision.

“We will offer them all of the support they need and ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

He added: “We are asking that anyone who may have seen the moments leading up to the collision or have information regarding the three vehicles involved being driven in the area to contact us immediately.”
