Trains between Edinburgh and York cancelled as Storm Otto wreaks havoc

Rail services between York and Edinburgh will not be running until the late afternoon today (Friday 17) due to weather conditions impacting the track.

Severe weather has meant that no trains are able to run between both York and Edinburgh with Network Rail saying that the disruption is expected to last until 3pm.

Other services to the capital could also be affected due to speed restrictions that are in place due to high winds amongst other adverse weather conditions.

Lumo have said that tickets will be accepted on TransPennine Express and LNER services via any reasonable alternative route.

Severe weather between York and Edinburgh means no electric trains are able to run between these stations. Other services may be affected by speed restrictions.

The services that are expected to be impacted will be the CrossCountry between Plymouth and Aberdeen which was expected to call at Edinburgh.

The LNER service between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh as well as the Lumo between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh will also be affected.

Network Rail have posted to their site that: “You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

“If you would like to follow this incident on Twitter, please use #York.

“You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.”
