Speaker Johnson To Meet Trump At Mar-A-Lago Estate

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is scheduled to meet with former President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Friday amidst a challenge to his speakership from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a staunch Trump loyalist.

Johnson and Trump have clashed over the House's delay in passing an additional $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, a move Johnson has resisted despite the Senate's approval of the legislation months ago.

Trump has expressed intentions to swiftly end the war if reelected and proposed converting Ukraine aid into a loan. He also urged GOP lawmakers to block the reauthorization of FISA, a measure Johnson supports and plans to reintroduce in the House.

Greene, who recently introduced a resolution for a vote of no confidence in Johnson, criticized his bipartisan negotiations and failure to adhere to GOP rules. She opposes increased aid to Ukraine and remains dissatisfied with Johnson's leadership on various issues.

Despite tensions, Trump is expected to endorse Johnson during Friday's meeting, which is anticipated to focus on election integrity and legislation preventing noncitizens from voting.

The joint appearance aims to showcase Johnson's close relationship with Trump and demonstrate unity within the party. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich described the event as Trump's endorsement of Johnson's leadership, emphasizing their alliance.

Notably, Trump's meeting with former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron at Mar-a-Lago preceded this high-profile gathering.
