Report: Patriots planning to release veteran special-teamer

The New England Patriots are planning to release special-teams star Chris Board. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on Monday morning.

Board, who also played the linebacker position during his time in New England, recorded 10 tackles in 2023.

He played in all 17 games for the Patriots after signing with the team as an unrestricted free agent from the Detroit Lions last year. He initially broke into the league with the Baltimore Ravens in 2018.

This latest move marks what has been a busy couple of days for the Patriots’ organization. They are tinkering with their roster in preparation for free agency week and the official start to the expected rebuild in New England.

It is sure to be a busy week for the Patriots with the legal tampering period beginning on Monday and free agency starting on Wednesday. New England has a chance to reshape their roster as a new era of football under coach Jerod Mayo begins.
