Rafael Nadal Withdraws From Monte Carlo Masters Due To Injury

Rafael Nadal playing tennis

Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters, citing that his body is not yet prepared for competition. The tennis star, who has previously expressed his intention to retire after the 2024 season, made a comeback in January at the Brisbane tournament following a nearly year-long absence due to a hip flexor injury. However, he has not participated in any ATP events since then.

In a statement shared on social media, Nadal expressed his disappointment at having to pull out of the Monte Carlo Masters, stating, 'These are very difficult moments for me, sporting wise. Unfortunately, I have to tell you that I am not going to be playing in Monte Carlo. My body simply won't allow me. Even though I am working hard and giving my all every day with the desire to compete again at tournaments that hold great significance for me, the reality is that I am unable to play at this time.'

Nadal, who is 37 years old, holds the record for the most Monte Carlo Masters titles with 11 victories, the most recent of which was in 2018. He also recently withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

The Monte Carlo Masters is set to commence on Sunday, with Nadal's absence being a notable absence from the prestigious tournament. Fans and fellow players alike will undoubtedly miss seeing the 22-time Grand Slam champion in action, but his health and well-being remain the top priority.
