New Balance introduces resale programme to promote sustainable shopping

New Balance launches resale programme called 'Reconsidered'

New Balance, the renowned footwear specialist, has recently launched an exciting new resale programme called 'Reconsidered'. With this programme, customers now have the opportunity to view and purchase pre-owned New Balance products online, thereby contributing to sustainable fashion practices.

The 'Reconsidered' programme not only provides customers with the option to buy pre-loved New Balance shoes, but it also allows them to trade in their 'gently worn' items. Customers can either send their shoes through mail or drop them off at a New Balance store to receive a voucher that can be used towards their next purchase from the brand.

John Stokes, the director of sustainability at New Balance, expressed the motivation behind this initiative. He highlighted the environmental impact of the footwear industry, particularly the issue of products ending up in landfills. The 'Reconsidered' programme is just one piece of the puzzle in New Balance's larger sustainability efforts. The main objective of the programme is to extend the lifespan of products and make the most out of what is already manufactured.

To facilitate this resale experience, New Balance has partnered with tech platform Archive. With Archive's support, customers can easily navigate through the dedicated website to view and choose their desired pre-owned New Balance items. Additionally, Tersus Solutions will be responsible for product cleaning, fulfilment, and warehousing.

Initially, the 'Reconsidered' programme is available only to customers in the United States through the dedicated website. However, New Balance plans to pilot in-store trade-in programmes at eight retail locations across the country and expand to other stores later this year. This expansion will provide even more opportunities for customers to participate in the sustainable fashion movement and enjoy the benefits of the 'Reconsidered' programme.

With 'Reconsidered', New Balance is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and responsible consumerism. By offering customers the chance to purchase pre-owned products and adequately dispose of their 'gently worn' shoes, this programme aims to combat the negative environmental impact of the footwear industry. Through these efforts, New Balance is taking a step towards a more circular and sustainable approach to fashion.
