Met Gala 2024: Highlights, best & worst dressed, and behind-the-scenes moments from NYC's top fashion event

The 2024 edition of the Met Gala, the year's premier fashion event, took place today in New York City. The biggest stars from fashion, film, television, and the world of celebrities gathered on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum, captivating and surprising fans of entertainment and fashion with their bold and unexpected outfits.

Among the first ones to arrive were the four co-chairs of the gala: Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya. None of them disappointed, but only two of them really surprised.

Hemsworth and his wife, Spanish actress and model Elsa Pataky, looked spectacular but tame. His cream suit was perfectly coordinated with her gold dress, both from Tom Ford. They were the golden couple of the night. However, their outfits did nothing to reflect the official dress code "The Garden of Time."

This year, the Met gala is celebrating New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's new exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion." Jennifer Lopez was a true Hollywood goddess with a nude gown from Schiaparelli, which made her look both elegant and sexy. While the fabric was incredible, elaborate, and filled with flowers and butterflies, the whole outfit resembled some of her previous choices on red carpets, and even on stage.

In an interesting move, Bad Bunny, showed up dressed mostly in black with a daring design from John Galliano for Maison Margela. He was holding a bouquet of flowers, inspired by Puerto Rico's national flower, also dyed totally black. His jacket was a deconstructed suit jacket, over black pants with a red stripe, and an attention-grabbing hat. El Conejo was as far away as possible from the white suit he wore last year.

However, the biggest surprise was Zendaya's dress inspired by Haute Couture da Dior by Galliano SS99. She combined the incredible outfit, with an ornament of a hummingbird attached to her neck, and makeup so dramatic that it seemed to come alive from Hollywood silent movies.

Puerto Rican urban singer-songwriter and Rosalía's ex Rauw Alejandro looked modern and edgy with a sheer sleeveless top and white pants from Ludovic de Saint Sernin.

Colombian Latin music star Karol G offered a whimsical interpretation of the "Garden of Time" dress code. She showed up looking like a fairy, with elf-like ears included, in a nude covered by crystals gown that fitted her like a glove. She was spectacular. Her fellow countrywoman Shakira was on a gorgeous red dress by Carolina Herrera. Both artists were attending the Met Gala for the first time.

Boricua Coleman Domingo looked dapper in Willy Chavarría, in homage to late André Leon Talley, who served as editor-at-large of Vogue magazine. Penélope Cruz and Rosalía were representing Spain. The actress and the singer songwriter were wearing Channel and Dior, respectively.
