Martin Lewis slams X for failing to act on antisemitic 'Martin Jewish' post

Money saving guru Martin Lewis has hit out at X for failing to tackle antisemitic abuse he received on the social media platform.

Lewis, 52, reported a comment labelling him “Martin Jewish” beneath a photo of shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves alongside the consumer champion on Thursday morning.

He wrote: “Feel quite sick having read this”, explaining he had reported the abuse to X, formerly Twitter.

But the social media platform responded to the financial journalist saying there were no violations of its rules.

Alongside a copy of the message from X’s help centre Lewis wrote: ”Seriously X! I and many others report someone for writing to a politician simply ‘Why are you meeting Martin Jewish’ and this is your response…”

He added: “How much more anti-Semitic do they have to be! Disgusting.

“Going to try and move on from that and not let it ruin my whole day, having ruined my morning.”

The presenter, who hosts The Martin Lewis Money Show Live on ITV, previously described the pressure of being one of the UK’s most trusted voices as “horrendous” and “awful”.

He told The Media Show on BBC Radio 4 that he is often seen as an “incredibly robust” person given the way he comes across on TV, but he is actually “quite a brittle person”.

In 2019 Lewis lodged court papers against Facebook following months of scammers piggybacking on his reputation and preying on Facebook users.

At the time Lewis, who was given an OBE in 2014, said he was aware of a woman who had lost £100,000 as a result of a bogus advert featuring his face.

X has been contacted for comment.
