Man Shot By Police After Stealing Cruiser In Delaware Chase

A man was shot by police in Delaware after allegedly stealing an officer's cruiser and leading authorities on a chase that ended in neighboring Pennsylvania. The incident began when officers responded to a domestic dispute call at an apartment complex in Wilmington. The suspect, identified as Tyrese Knuckles, 25, fled the complex and engaged in a physical confrontation with police.

Despite attempts to subdue Knuckles with a Taser, he was ultimately shot in the torso by an officer. Knuckles then commandeered a nearby police cruiser and initiated a high-speed chase across Wilmington, resulting in several accidents involving police vehicles. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 95 north, culminating in a crash in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The chase involved multiple law enforcement agencies from Delaware and Pennsylvania, causing a closure of a section of I-95 for several hours. Knuckles sustained injuries from the crash and gunshot wounds but was listed in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.

During the incident, a New Castle County officer and a state trooper were injured in separate crashes and were taken to hospitals for treatment. The officer who shot Knuckles, an eight-year veteran of the force, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting, as per standard procedure.

Authorities revealed that Knuckles was wanted on unrelated warrants issued by Philadelphia police, including one for stalking. Charges related to the chase are pending as the investigation continues. It remains unclear if Knuckles has legal representation at this time.
