Major disruption to rail services and Elizabeth line to and from London Paddington

Rail services to and from London Paddington station, including Elizabeth line services between Heathrow Airport and Reading, are majorly disrupted on Wednesday morning.

Great Western Railway and Heathrow Express services are also disrupted.

A signalling fault between Reading and London Paddington means some lines are blocked and trains may be cancelled, delayed up to 30 minutes or revised, National Rail has warned.

The disruption is expected to last until midday, causing chaos for morning commuters.

The Elizabeth line is affected between Reading, Heathrow Airport terminal 4, 5 and Paddington.

This means anyone at Acton Main Line, Hanwell, West Ealing and Heathrow terminal 5 will not be served.

Commuters vented their frustrations on Twitter on Wednesday morning, with one writing: “You’d think with the amount of signal problems on the Elizabeth Line they would have fixed it by now.”

Another said: “The Elizabeth Line isn’t even striking and you still manage to screw up my journey yet again.”

A third posted a photo of an Elizabeth line platform packed with people, with the caption: “Another day, another signal failure on Elizabeth Line.”

Great Western Railway services are affected between Penzance, Paignton, Carmarthen, Hereford, Oxford, Greenford and Paddington.

The Heathrow Express is affected between Heathrow Airport terminal 5 and London Paddington. A reduced half-hourly service is being operated.

Heathrow Express tweeted on Tuesday that services are departing “at a reduced frequency” due to the signaling system fault.

Customers may be entitled to compensation due to delays, National Rail said.

The changes follow a day of disruption to Great Western Railway services and Heathrow Express on Tuesday.
