Karim Benzema Scores Fastest Goal In Saudi Super Cup History

Karim Benzema

Al Ittihad's Karim Benzema made history by scoring the fastest goal in Saudi Super Cup history, helping his team secure a 2-1 victory over Al Wehda in Abu Dhabi on Monday. This win earned them a spot in the final, where they will face Al Hilal, the Saudi Pro League leaders who eliminated Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr in the other semifinal.

Benzema's goal came just 55 seconds into the match, breaking the previous record set by Al Fateh striker Doris Salomo Fuakuputu in 2013. This goal marked Benzema's first of the year in what has been a challenging season for the French striker due to injuries and a lack of form. He has scored nine goals in 20 SPL games so far.

Abderrazzak Hamedallah extended Al Ittihad's lead with a tap-in goal after 42 minutes, following a cross from Romarinho. Despite a late consolation goal by Hussain Ahmed Al Issa for Al Wehda, after Morocco midfielder Faycal Fajr missed a penalty in the 91st minute, Al Ittihad held on for the win.

Looking ahead to the final, Al Ittihad coach Marcelo Gallardo will aim to secure his first title for the club on Thursday. In the other semifinal, Al Hilal emerged victorious against Al Nassr, with goals from Salem Aldawsari and Malcolm in the second half. Sadio Mane scored a consolation goal for Al Nassr, while Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card late in the match.
