I tried a £46 New Look dress loved by Frankie Bridge and there was one problem

Former The Saturday's singer shared an outfit recommendation from her popular 'Frankie's Faves' series on Instagram last week.

There was one dress in particular, from New Look, that seemed to prove popular in the comments. Frankie was seen in a 'beautiful' Tall Off White Broderie Button Front Midi Dress from the popular high street store, and New Look fans were quick to praise the 'sophisticated' dress in the comments section.

The dress is currently available in sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20. It features embroidery detail with buttons for a 'chic' look, and I for one absolutely loved it after catching a glimpse of it online.

I rushed to New Look in Liverpool ONE assuming it had most likely sold out, but was surprised to see there were a couple left in my size. Now, I know I couldn't look like Frankie Bridge if I tried, but I really wanted to see how this dress looked on my body shape, and how it really felt.

On the New Look website, the full product description reads: "Petite. Your warm weather wardrobe simply isn't complete without a cute white frock, and this button-through midi dress is as pretty as can be. Partner it with slip-on sandals for an effortlessly chic ensemble."

I chose the petite version instead of the long version worn by Frankie because of my 5'3 frame, and I have to say, I've got mixed opinions. Let's talk about the dress.

The dress

The material of the dress was actually a lot thicker than I imagined, and the dress felt weirdly heavy. I think because of this, it could be a better option to wear in the evening on holiday or when you're out for dinner and there's a slight nip in the air.

For a hot summer's day, I probably wouldn't advise wearing this dress if you want something light and flowy. I could definitely tell that the dress was more expensive than some other New Look summer dresses I've tried recently, purely from the feel of the material.

The dress was incredibly pretty, and looked super stunning on, however, there was one design issue that really annoyed me. In fact, this is no disrespect to New Look because a lot of dresses these days have this feature which I find increasingly more irritating.

It had the most annoying, tiny little buttons on the front of the dress that were such a pain to do up, especially because of my long nails. Why oh why does every dress have these annoying button holes these days? They really are the bane of my life at times!

Of course, that didn't take away from the fact that this dress was super pretty, but I wish the buttons were a little easier to manage. Other than that, the puffed sleeves added a beautiful addition to an already feminine dress, and the white shade made me feel extra glam.

The verdict

If you don't have a lot of patience like me, this dress might be a bit of a pain. However, once you've done them up, hopefully you won't need to fiddle with them again which is a positive way of looking at it!

I can definitely see why Frankie Bridge has been praising the dress, because it's an absolutely gorgeous statement piece for a summer holiday. The broderie pattern is very in right now, and it's easy to see why - it's chic, cute, and very summery.
