Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief from the rising temperatures. However, the downpour also led to flooding in several parts of the city.

After about four hours of waiting for the rain to stop during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, officials decided to call off the game as the rain did not come to a halt. The match, scheduled to start this evening, was eagerly anticipated by Hyderabadis who had been hoping all afternoon that the weather would cooperate. Fans who attended the stadium are now hoping the ticketing partner will issue refunds.

While exiting the stadium, the screen inside displayed a message saying ‘Ticket refund-details will be shared over email and phone number used during purchasing of tickets. Please keep your physical/printed ticket handy.”

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, with occasional intense spells and gusty winds for Thursday evening and night in the Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally zones of Hyderabad. Many Hyderabadis have turned to social media to ask weather experts and the IMD about the rain forecast for Uppal during the match.

At 2 p.m., the IMD issued a rain warning for various parts of the state, including Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Rangareddy districts, advising people to monitor the weather and be prepared to move to safer locations if conditions worsen. Then at 4 p.m, the IMD issued a moderate rain and thundershower alert for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd. (TSSPDCL) urged people to contact at its helpline numbers in case of issues with power supply.
