How to Style the Top Spring 2024 Trends: From Western to Boho and Maximalism and Even No Pants

You can master these trends. (Credit: Courtesy of Launchmetrics Spotlight)

Spring has sprung. Took it long enough. Now is the time to do a little spring cleaning when it comes to your wardrobe. Fortunately, the Spring 2024 collections offer several trends worth tackling. Now we realize that trends up on the runways don't always translate to the real world. But we have some tips and tricks to pull off such seemingly insurmountable feats. Let's take it sartorial craze by sartorial craze.

Go West

First up is the Western look. Obviously, Beyoncé has helped bring this obsession to the forefront. Although the trend really kicked off last summer. Barbie going full cowgirl certainly had an impact and the street style set was already wearing cowboy boots.

You definitely need to have a little fun with it. Keep it elevated by topping off a black shirt and gold skirt with a Stetson a la Ralph Lauren. Skip all of the gold jewelry and the flashy belt to keep it from being overwhelming. Try going double denim like Isabel Marant. Tuck a faded denim shirt into slightly slouchy jeans in a darker shade. (Bonus points if you can rustle up embroidered versions.) Neutral, simple sandals are an ideal way to anchor the ensemble.

Boho, but Make It Fashion

Boho never really went away, but for Spring 2024, designers are taking things up quite a few notches. Master this trend now because thanks to Chloe, it'll still be a thing come fall. Ermanno Scervino was boho central with everything from billowy dresses to crochet sets being paraded down the catwalk. One of the most wearable iterations is the brand's pairing of a sheer embroidered blouse with light jeans. It reads easy, breezy with just a hint of 70s.

Ulla Johnson has been reinventing the boho wheel for some time now. Its handcrafted crochet top and skirt set boasting a geometric pattern is just one elegant example. Our advice? Head on over to the brand's website and buy this striking set. A little short on funds? Look for a similar crochet ensemble that will work day or night. The more strappy the sandals, the better.

No Pants, No Problem

Don't let the moniker stress you out. It doesn't mean you have to literally wear nothing on bottom. Thankfully, spring and summer call for showing more skin due to the often sweltering temps. Ease yourself into the phenomenon by taking cues from Tom Ford. Search for short shorts, preferably ones with a matching shirt and/or jacket. A shirt is definitely a requirement despite the runway styling. If you want to keep things casual, cap the outfit off with flats.

Miu Miu, the no pants instigator, encourages you to simply swap in swim briefs. That's not exactly practical unless you're water-adjacent, however. Benetton made the look far more feasible with high-waist knit briefs paired with a coordinating bra top and a cardigan. Feel free to sport heels here since it reads more country club member than exhibitionist.

Turn Up the Volume

While quiet luxury managed to make some headway, fashion inevitably returned to its love of everything, everywhere, all at once. The term go big or go home must have been ringing in Louis Vuitton visionary Nicolas Ghesquière's head when he designed the fashion house's Spring 2024 collection. Layering a sheer skirt over a sheer dress is a minimally invasive way to work your way back into the maximalist fold. Ease your way into it by holding off on adding in a belt for now, but stark footwear is a must.

For Fendi's preppy take, we're betting you already have all the necessary pieces hanging in your closet. Relaxed tan pants, a colorful twin set and structured pumps are the foundation. Make it maxi by turning the cardigan to the side, buttoning just the top button and tying its sleeves under one shoulder. Wrap things up with gloves in a contrasting color and a raffia bag.

Fun With Florals

Many brands favored 3-D floral accents this season, but the statement bouquets will cost beaucoup bucks. As an alternative, pay homage to this Balmain frock by looking for a version featuring a few rosettes. They give the same effect and are infinitely more wearable.

Zimmermann's blooming blouse adds color and texture. Keep the same styling by working in a cropped leather jacket, baggy jeans and complementary footwear.

Sheer Genius

The "naked" look has been a staple both on the runways and the red carpets for years now. Of course, playing peekaboo in real life can lead to serious problems. Follow Givenchy's lead by layering sheer separates. It provides the illusion of modesty while still embracing the trend.

Pay no attention to the underwear under the latex skirt. Our focus is strictly on Alaïa's semi-sheer button-down. All you need to do is slip a white tank top underneath and you're good to go. Style with a not-so-revealing midi skirt or jeans and white pumps.
